History According to ancient Greek legend, Homer's Ulysses was drawn to the Sorrento Peninsula by the beautiful song of ill-intentioned Mermaid-Monsters. Unlike the fate of other boats drawn here in the same way, Ulysses was able to avoid the curse by instructing his crew to plug their ears while he strapped himself to the mast of the ship as they sailed safely away.
